Google has appointed a former FDA official as its new senior director of global digital health strategy. Bakul Patel worked for the FDA for over a decade and was most recently the chief digital health officer of global strategy and innovation.
“I am looking forward to learning from the teams in health across Google and Alphabet and helping build a unified digital health and regulatory strategy,” he wrote in a LinkedIn post.
Google, like many major technology businesses, has focused more on health and healthcare in recent years, with varied success. Its goals include mining large data for algorithms, producing disease-detecting technologies, and loading wearables with health features. However, its goal has changed: the corporation disbanded the Google Health business in August 2021 and distributed its staff to several initiatives. So it’s looking like we are going to see a comeback in this sector.
